Combat and Recovery
Most expensive mistakes in Mortal Realms come from entering the wrong fight, recalling badly, or recovering poorly after death.
Starting a Fight
`kill` begins normal combat. `backstab`, `disarm`, and `kick` are class-linked fighting tools that require practice to use well. `murder` is separate because it is the command used to attack another player character, and it carries legal and social consequences.
Death, Recall, and Corpses
`death` sets your death room at specific safe locations tied to your god or to protected rooms. `recall reset` sets your recall room back to that death room. After dying, only you or someone in your group can retrieve items from your corpse.
- Objects flagged `inventory` stay with you on death.
- Recalling during combat loses experience and may fail.
- Cursed characters may not recall at all.
Killer and Thief Flags
The help files are explicit here: player killing and player theft are legal within the game’s rules, but they carry penalties. Killers draw guard aggression and lose more experience on death. Failed theft marks you as a thief and also affects death penalties.
Safer Combat Habits
- Use `consider` before picking fights in unknown areas.
- Keep recall resources available before pushing too deep.
- Practice your class combat skills before relying on them.
After a Death
- Return quickly with your group if the corpse location is recoverable.
- Check whether important items stayed with you due to the inventory flag.
- Reset recall to your death room when needed.
